30th August - Dubai to Rome

30th August - Dubai to Rome

We boarded the Boeing 777 at terminal 140 in Dubai Airport. The plane trip was going to be aprox five and a half hours to Rome. We set off at 9:25 am (Dubai Time) and relaxed and played Tectriz on the ICE (Information Communication Entertainment) entertainment screens that were in-front of us. We had lunch on the plane, roast chicken marinated in mustard sauce and vegetables, lemonade, water and a small mud cake filled with mousse. We all watched some movies and played games on the computer.
When we landed Luke and I got separated from mum and dad. We thought they were ahead so we caught the monorail to the main airport and waited for them. Luke was worried but, I new what had happened, we were in-front of them and they waited for us back at the plane exit, we had taken a different exit.

Arriving in Rome

We collected our luggage and waited for our private shuttle bus to collect us and drop us into Centro Storico to our accommodation. As we were driving into the centre of Rome, we noticed alot of things that are different than back home:
~ There is rubbish all in the gutters.
~ Heaps of GRAFFITI everywhere you look.
~ There are a lot of motorbikes.
~ The units and homes are very old and are all similar colours, Yellow and Orange.
~ The traffic Lights are green, not black
~ There are no 4X4’s driving around. It is all small cars.
Our apartment is lovely 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, lounge room, kitchen and verandah.  We are positioned right next to the Tiber River close to the Ponte Cavour Bridge.  5 minute walk to Spanish Steps, 10 minutes to Trevi Fountain, 20 minutes to Vatican City.  A great spot.  We have shutters on the windows that open straight onto the
street below.  It is great unit.
We walked to the Spanish steps after we unpacked and immediately ran into some Aussies!  We had a walk around and then sat and had Pizza for dinner in a little restaurant.  After dinner we walked down to Trevi Fountain, it was packed with people but was well worth coming to, we through a coin in so that we will return one day.  Walked up to a gelato shop and ordered a delicious gelato and walked back to our apt.  Very tired.
